It has been a week since the elections. I have heard some awful things from people on both sides. I can understand anger, frustration, and the like. One thing I have heard that has been bothering me is the Im so ashamed of my state, or town, or whatever. If you truly feel ashamed, then I have some news for you. Some of that shame? It can be placed right at your own feet. If you dont like the way things are you need to be an agent of change. The first thing being an agent of change means is that the name calling stops. The insults stop. I dont care what someone else calls you. I cant control them, but I can control me. I can control how I react. Imagine if you would, your child gets an answer wrong on a test at school. Instead of telling your child the right answer, or helping him or her figure it out, the teacher instead just calls your kid an imbecile, or an asshole, or stupid. Would you be fine with that? And the argument that you have tried the nice route but people dont listen? How many times do teachers repeat the same thing over and over again without calling your child an idiot? Sure, not every has the temperament to be a teacher. But we can at least try. A lot of those people you feel so ashamed of, how many of them really know any different? People in there 60s, 70s, older, how many of them have the tech know how to fact check what they hear in the media? How many of them ever even thought about having to fact check the news? Now, this isnt meant to be a just blast liberals thing. Conservatives, independents, whatever you label yourself as, we need to talk to people like they are people and not as if they were the enemy. We are all still Americans, and maybe its time we all tried acting like it.
