It has been almost 5 months since my sweet Cannoli was pts. I am still so sad about it. It was so hard losing him. He was such a fighter. And such a sweetie! How many budgies love hanging out on their back in a hand? Personally, Cannoli is the only keet I have ever heard of who would actually climb in a hand and turn himself over! I had decided to not get any more budgie siblings for Cilantro and ChoeChoe. Budgies are just too prone to cancer. The birdie love of my life, Kiwi, died in 2009 from testicular cancer. Calypso, Clover and Chewie also died from cancer. All of the birds were rehomes except for Cannoli who I bought from a local bird store before I knew about how many birds are in rescues. I had no control over what the others ate in their early years but Cannoli had been eating good since he was 7 weeks old and he STILL got cancer. Parakeets might be the cheapest parrot to buy but I honestly think they end up being the most expensive if the owner is responsible and vets. They just seem to have on average so many more health problems than the bigger ones. I decided my next bird was going to be a bigger bird. I even sent in an application to Miss Vickis Parrot Village rescue about 2 weeks ago. Then I found out that the local animal control had a budgie. After much deliberation, I decided I would adopt it. Then I got a phone call the next day from a woman who had found a budgie about a month ago and tried everything but was unable to locate the owner. She couldnt keep her and wanted to know if I could adopt her. When it rains, it pours. I had to wait until I recovered some from my surgery last Tuesday but I am going to get the AC one today. I am probably still not recovered enough but am afraid to leave it there much longer. The other one will be picked up this weekend.
