It has been raining steadily at the Sanctuary all afternoon and has been eagerly soaked up by the dry parched earth and welcomed by bird, beast and man alike. Eventually though the rain wore itself out but the moment the heavens stopped a symphony of bird song began, accompanied by the rhythmic tap tap plop of leftover raindrops slipping off branches and leaves into muddy puddles. Everything is brighter and more alive now that all is washed clean from the dust of the last few months. The green of the msasas seem almost florescent backdropped by a darkening sky. Night settles in and the darkness is alive with the sound of chirping crickets, singing tree frogs, babbling bull frogs and the pulsing tune of the Night Jar to soothe the night away and serenade us all to sleep.
