It has been so long since I posted an update! So much to report! Last week Wednesday we were able to meet up with some of our hockey family from the Bisons, moms, dads and the kids! It was great to see all the boys together, we had a great time, little brother Blake loved seeing all the hockey moms too! At the end of the night they hockey dads explained that there was an end of the season tournament that the team decided not to be in and all the Bison families decided to donate the remaining funds to Jake! We are very thankful! What this means is between that and the school dance...we can now get Jake a hand cycle! We are very excited and hopeful about this! While we cant say that this will help his right arm it will force the correct muscle to be involved so we are hoping the brain will start sending the correct message! Thank you for everyones help to make this possible! We cannot wait till it arrives! We also went to my niece Macies birthday celebration and were able to see family at Fuji grill, where Jake joined in the fun and was guzzling as they squirted drink down his mouth...a little strange if you are not use to going to those places, but the bigger piece of information there is that Jake had no problem with this, after being told initially that generally when there is brain stem damage swallowing can always be an issue....not for Jake! Praise God! Jake has been doing very limited walking without his afo brace on his right leg, generally only in therapy with his pt and very small amounts with the pt telling us only try this at home when with him and maybe only one room to next. However on one of the hot days this week we were going out for ice cream, since he was only walking to car he asked if he could go without the brace, sure. When we got home all the kids wanted to walk down to the playground, neighbors, nieces, lil Blake and Jake. No biggie, Jake walks downs with his brother so off they went....only to see Jake come home, looking very uncomfortable....we never realized that we didnt put his brace on!! So he walked like a block and back without the brace! The great news is he was able to do it and did not get injured, the bad news is he said his ankle and foot were in pain (the muscles in ankle and foot are not usually working due to the brace) And the right foot turns out more without the brace, so you lose the quality of the step! Wait till we tell his pt Monday, she is going to kill me, but also be very excited! Go Jake, you acre unstoppable! For the Fourth of July celebration we were able to spend it with family and friends, thank you to the Bates family for having us! Was great for Jake to be with his friends and it was so great to see so many people for the first time since the accident who have been praying for Jake and following his journey, so nice for everyone to see his progress! We all had a great time! Sadly I failed miserably in the picture department so I dont have any! If anyone took pictures of Jake with his friends please forward.
