It has been the greatest privilege of my life to work for you – the people of Southern Arizona – in Congress for the past 2½ years. It was an opportunity that I never expected. I am proud of the work we accomplished, from keeping the A-10 flying to saving the AEPCO Power Plant in Cochise County and working to ensure people living with a mental illness get the treatment and services they need. I am especially proud of the work we have accomplished here at home. About 6,000 of you asked our constituent services team for assistance in resolving an issue with the federal government, including problems with veterans’ benefits or Social Security. To ensure each one of you receives the ongoing assistance you need, we are doing two things with open cases: One copy of each open case will go to my successor. Another copy will go to one of Arizona’s two senators – either to Sen. John McCain or Senator Jeff Flake. I am taking these steps to prevent any lapse in service to you.
