It has come to my attention that there have been students who wish to retract their signature from the petition. This shouldnt be a problem but I do want to explain the situation in case there are any misconceptions about this petition. 1. By signing this petition you are at virtually no risk for any repercussions. No one in any position could legally discipline you in any way. 2. We are not challenging anyones authority, rather inquiring about the reasons we have been given so far. 3. We are not staging any physical protests while the President and Provost are here. In fact, due to the recent developments NO MEETING (PRIVATE OR PUBLIC) WILL TAKE PLACE WHILE DR. NYQUIST AND DR. VENUGOPAL DURING THEIR VISIT. Dr. Lewiss announcement thursday is seen as a sufficient response for now. 4. We are PLEASED with the response to the petition thus far. 5. Overall, we hope this whole issue is a positive and uniting experience between Chicago, Spokane, Faculty, and Students. I have personally been disappointed (not angry) that rumors have developed about us having ill intentions. We are doing this to support not only Professor Churchwell, but also for current/future students. With all that said, anyone who wishes to retract their signature will be respected. But I plea that students of Moody Bible will be bold to stand up for truth and at least wait until after Dr. Lewiss announcement on Thursday before making any decision.
