It has now been 48 hours since I shot this video in my neighborhood. The only county official who has had active, engaging conversations with me about this public nuisance has been Chief Code Enforcement Officer James Mckinney. I did receive an email from both Sheriff Eric Levett and County Commissioner Richard Oden. I will hopefully sit down with Sheriff Levett within the next 24 hours because someone needs to explain to me why (1) we are no longer enforcing the zero tolerance policy on large house parties that was enacted in 2010 after a teen was killed (shar.es/NPOGH) and, (2) we are no longer enforcing county ordinance ordinance 218.2 - 218.6 which requires a special use permit for large gatherings. The emails that I got yesterday kept addressing writing a new ordinance that would address renting out homes for weekend gatherings and while I agree we do need that ordinance to prevent things like this my greater concern is that we have an ordinance in place that should have shut this party down and didnt enforce it. So if we spend all of this time on writing a new ordinance will we not enforce that one too? And can I just say that you really learn who you voted into office when you get a two sentence non-response email that says Thank you for bringing this matter to our attention; we are aware of this unpleasant situation for your community. Please know that we are working to resolve this matter as soon as possible, so please be patient as we work through this issue together to bring your neighborhood back to the quality of life you deserve. Again thanks for bringing this to our attention. Commissioner, you honestly could have kept those 30 seconds of your life that you expended in sending me that email. Oh and my title is DR. ANNISE MABRY not MS... What that email should have said was (1) thank you; and, (2) when can we meet to discuss what happened. Public relations crisis management 101.
