It has occurred to me that if you have a father who tells dad jokes you are greatly blessed. I suspect that the phenomenon of Dad joking is hard wired to help us all from taking ourselves too seriously. The test of a good joke is not really how much you laugh but how much you wince. Teenage girls pretend to hate it when dad tells his jokes to their boyfriends when they are courting, but the proof that deep down they love him for doing it is that they nearly always repeat his jokes at his funeral.
