It has taken me a year to watch it since I got the DVD set last Christmas, but over the past few days I have watched it chapter by chapter. Oliver Stones Untold History of the United States is an eye-opener even to someone who lived through most of the period covered with his eyes as wide open as possible given the media-controlled information deficit. It is not Howard Zinns masterwork A Peoples History of the United States in scope or detail, but it is not meant to be. It is a documentary series that provides and links crucial information that shows how the US was consciously brought to renege on the potential of the republic (however flawed that was) and to become the State responsible for war crimes and crimes against humanity on an unimaginable scale. That was no accident - as Stone shows there was a moment in US history when there was potential to take a different path, and I am glad that I now know much more about Henry Wallace, Roosevelts vice-President, who should have become president following Roosevelts death in office, but didnt. Each of the ten chapters in the documentary series stands on its own, but combined they trace the continuum of events and personalities that explains in large part how the United States has become such a hateful and exceptionally dangerous entity while masquerading as a democracy, as the light of the world, as a City upon a Hill. If you want to better understand the chaotic world we live in, watch the series. washingtonpost/lifestyle/style/oliver-stones-untold-history-of-the-united-states-facts-through-a-new-lens/2012/11/11/958e2088-2b6a-11e2-bab2-eda299503684_story.html
