It has to be some pretty strong wind, if the noise alone will wake - TopicsExpress

It has to be some pretty strong wind, if the noise alone will wake me up at 3AM. From having lived outside and been subservient to the elements, theres an instinctual protocol. First I ran to the window and looked at the silhouette of the trees against the sky, in order to know which direction this mad wind comes from and its speed, given how the branches are bending. Taking note of the visibility attributes at ground level, should I have to flee. This wind was slinging rain at a 15-45 degree angle which reduced visibility about 25% over 150ft. Light debris was taking to the air. Light objects on the ground, however, were not being agitated. Such as empty buckets. Even though Im still mostly asleep, my brain is calculating all sorts of things from this data. Such as which dead/live wood in which trees is most likely to be grounded. Other things are calculated instantly as well, such as the distance between lightning flash and thunder roll which gives an indication of the direction, speed and distance of the epicenter of the storm. Im not a meteorologist and most folks would probably not know why all this shit is important. Hopefully you never have to find out! In todays day, we get to be buttoned up in our perfectly sealed little houses. Worst case scenario, we left something electronic outside.
