Later in 1972, Elvis Presleys version reached No. 66, and peaked at No. 31 on the Easy Listening chart. In 2002. Its claimed Over 465 versions of An American Trilogy have been recorded by different artists to date. In my view, no one ever matched Mickey Newbury for reaching down inside himself to deliver the heart and soul of this beautiful and intuitive work - - - and in so doing - - - he allowed the rest of us to briefly experience a small but wonderful piece of what he felt . . . ..
