It is Day 4 of 7 of my quest to honor 7 people or groups of people during the seven days of Kwanzaa. Today I choose Luwando Wright, affectionately known as Lou. I do not know where to even begin. I do not know how to keep it at 100 words or less. I think it would take at the very least a chapter in a book about the most influential woman in my life to do you justice. Yet, I will try. I have never seen such strength, class and sophistication in the face of adversity. I have rarely seen such conviction to truth and principles when facing an army of opposition. You have the gifted and rare ability to walk with queens, yet not lose the common touch. Most of us know the Luwando from Beverly Hills, but the Luwando from Belleglade shows up and shows out, when necessary. Your smooth ability to code-switch within settings puts all you come across at ease. I admire the way you can staunchly handle your business in the workplace and within that same setting show compassion and loving support for those under your employ. You are loyal. You are true. Two and a half year ago, I faced an upset in my career and I learned the painful difference between positional friends and true friends. When you have friends because of position, their loyalty and respect for you end at the point where you can no longer help them. But, true friends are ones you can count on through the thick and thin. They are ride or die. I was broken, but I remember your continuous words of advisement to me, Trust God, then, sit back and watch. No truer advice has been spoken to me. (Tears). You said that! And I watched it unfold before my very eyes as I took in your advisement. Trust God, then, sit back and watch. Lou, you are my friend. You are my sister from another mother. You are my sister from another color. Pink is just a watered down red. Red is just a a bold, dulled pink.
