It is Friday again! What great books are all my friends currently reading? And what fun things do you have planned for this week-end? I’m still reading “Songs of Willow Frost” by Jamie Ford…with an older book, “Between Sisters” by Kristin Hannah, lined up next. I’m looking forward to a good old fashioned day of reading and Nascar racing on Sunday…the first Sunday in a long time that we can spend relaxing at home. However, Saturday is “Sweetest Day”, and that is a day to be celebrated in our house. “Sweetest Day” has been a “pseudo holiday”….like Valentines Day….for many years. However, it first became significant to me in October, 1982. Matt and I had been friends since 1980 and began dating in April, 1982. Good friends dating…great fun… but oh, he surprised me that fall. I was working at a Bank that was open on Saturdays until noon...”Sweetest Day” was no exception. I had left my desk for a few minutes and when I returned a dozen of the most beautiful peachy/apricot colored roses were lying next to my calculator. One of my best Bank buddies, Debbie, was all atwitter that this nice, respectful young man had left them for me. Of course, the card was signed, “Happy Sweetest Day….Love, Matt.” We had dinner together that evening. It became a tradition. So fast forward to October, 2013. When I got home Thursday evening from a Reunion Committee dinner/meeting my lovely hand blown cranberry glass vase was filled with a dozen gorgeous pink roses….with a card signed, ”Happy Sweetest Day….Love, Matt”. Saturday evening we will be celebrating Sweetest Day #32 at the Mill Creek Baptist Church (neither of us is Baptist) “famous” chicken noodle dinner fundraiser. Happy “Sweetest Day”, Matt. I love you. Have a great week-end, my friends, with the people you love…maybe even a “Sweetest Day” celebration too. Quote for the Day: “If you live to be a hundred, I want to live to be a hundred minus one day so I never have to live without you.” ― A.A. Milne, Winnie-the-Pooh
