It is a beautiful balmy Labor Day. The sun is shining bright on the awesome Pacific Ocean. Yumi and I are taking an early morning walk on the beach. We meet a man who single handedly picks up any man-made garbage he finds on the beach. He tells us that the whole area is a maritime sanctuary, and that he is taking responsibility to keep it clean. He started in his own neighborhood, and then he kept going. We are awed. The beach is big, and he is one man. He tells us: Sometimes people follow my example. As we keep looking at him, and watch him bend down again and again, with his dogged commitment to keeping the sanctuary clean, we feel that it is exactly what our couples workshop is all about. Making sure that we all take responsibility to keep the sanctuary clean.
