“It is a bittersweet moment that I concede my bid for the 11th - TopicsExpress

“It is a bittersweet moment that I concede my bid for the 11th District State Senate seat to incumbent Senator Vincent Gregory. We ran a tough race, along with my legislative colleague, Rep. Vicki Barnett, and yet the people chose another path than mine. I am proud of the campaign that I, along with hundreds of my supporters, waged in the name of those democratic values that I know the citizens of southeastern Michigan hold so dearly, such as insulating seniors from pension taxes, advocating for environmental concerns that protect our Great Lakes, and stopping the corporate takeover of our public schools. I have no doubt that Vincent Gregory will remain committed to these values as well. “I believe that history will remember this primary as one marked less as three good democrats running against each other, but more as an example of the impact gerrymandering plays in the redistricting process. When good candidates with great ideas on how to best serve Michigan’s underprivileged and middle-class families are increasingly forced to compete against each other for fewer legislative seats, all of Michigan’s citizens are harmed. “I intend to serve the remainder of my legislative tenure proudly, knowing that the issues we advance in this campaign will carry on to ensure a better state for residents in the 27th House District and the State of Michigan. I thank every person who helped me carry my message to the voters and I am grateful for the outpouring of support.”
