It is a chilly, rainy Thursday morning in Juba. Despite the weather, people appear to be going about their activities as normal at the Mahad settlement for internally displaced persons (IDPs). This collection of makeshift shelters, in an open patch of land close to the centre of the city, is currently home to over 2,500 IDPs, most of whom are women and children. Over the last five months they have fled from the conflict that has beset South Sudan; they have come mostly from Bor, Pibor and Malakal, in the central and northern parts of the country.
