It is a complicated day today. I am preparing for the launching of my second collection of poetry, Psychology 101, and going through the poems deciding what to read. They are like photographs, snapshots of a point in time now past, and yet as such they take me back to how I was feeling at that time. Some of those feelings are incredibly intense. So all at once Im feeling excited, sad, angry, fearful, nervous, happy, ashamed, and so many other emotions, a few about right now, most from the past. Such intensity require the occasional distraction, so I though I would print off The Manual of the Warrior of Light for a friend. Oh, what a mistake! I found the full version, which I have not read in some time, and rather simply printing it, I started to peruse. That text is at once inspiring and devastating. It is so rich, so real, so true, so honest, that if you let it in, really let it in, it will drive you to your knees. I may have to return to the shallowness of my own poetry for relief. With that I give you the page that brought me to this state. Numbers 4 and 7 are what I must battle most. First: God is sacrifice. Suffer in this life and you will be happy in the next. Second: People who have fun are childish. Remain tense at all times. Third: Other people know what is best for us because they have more experience. Fourth: Our duty is to make other people happy. We must please them even if that means making major sacrifices. Fifth: We must not drink from the cup of happiness; we might get to like it and we wont always have it in our hands. Sixth: We must accept all punishments. We are guilty. Seventh: Fear is a warning. We dont want to take any risks. These are the commandments that no warrior of light can obey.
