It is a very chilly day out there today, made worse by a packet of showers currently working across the region and a brisk NWly wind. Although these showers should move away another band of organised showers will be moving down from the north for the evening and overnight period. Some of these showers could be heavy with hail and with the air so cold at the moment it would not be surprising if there wasnt a bit of sleet or wet snow in the heavier showers, although snow should be mostly restricted to ground above around 300-400m. Over the higher Peak District routes there could be some accumulations of 2-5cm, but for most of us there will be no settling of snow that does occur. With all the wind and showers around there is unlikely to be frost overnight despite it feeling bitterly cold in the strong NW wind as temperatures drop to around 3-4c. Tomorrow starts with these showers moving away quite early on and then for most of us it is a dry day with some sunny spells. There may be one or two light showers to the east of the region, more especially across Lincolnshire but this will be the exception rather than the rule. Temperatures will be slightly higher tomorrow at around 7c, but there will still be a brisk NE wind making it feel a little colder than the thermometer suggests, although unlikely to feel as bitter as today. Overnight into Friday sees the likelihood of a little frost under any clear spells as temperatures drop to around 0c but with an ongoing breeze from the north and some cloud around, there shouldnt anything too severe. Friday will be a dry day with rather a lot of cloud but also some brightness at times with a light to moderate Nly wind. Rather cold again with temperatures around 5-6c. Friday night will bring a widespread frost with temperatures dropping to lows of around -1c with light winds. Saturday then looks like a repeat performance of Friday with temperatures around 5c and light Nly winds. Feeling cold despite some decent brightness. Late Saturday we will start to feed some cloud in from the east and this prevents temperatures dropping too low on Saturday night but will lead us into a rather cloudy, dull day on Sunday with a cold feel again despite temperatures a touch higher at around 7c. With high pressure in control it then looks like we are settled into a pattern of a lot of dry weather but with temperatures never very high and although it does look predominantly cloudy, where skies clear frost and freezing fog will form. If freezing fog does form it will be slow to clear leading to some very cold daytime temperatures but I will have more on next week on the weekend update, which I will be doing as Rebekkaaaaaa enjoys her jollies in sunny Poland :) Kaaaaaaaaaarl.
