It is a very sad day on the mountaintop. Work will begin around - TopicsExpress

It is a very sad day on the mountaintop. Work will begin around 9am to start the removal process of our iconic bell tower. ABU officials were recently made aware of a design flaw so dangerous that the bell tower must come down immediately to ensure the safety of our campus community. Unfortunately, it was also discovered that the damage has been coming since the day the tower was installed. When the tower was first erected, the four legs supporting it were put directly into the ground, with nothing shielding them from the dirt and water. And now that exposure is the main reason the tower is too damaged to stand. It is with heavy hearts that we must take down what has become a steadfast symbol of strength and worship to so many of our alumni, staff, faculty and Philippi residents for over 40 years. But, remember, “…we ought not to think that the Divine being is like gold or silver or stone, an image formed by the art and imagination of man” (Acts 17:29 ESV). Please know that we as a University mourn with each of you. We know that seeing the cross standing above campus brought many comfort and fulfilled its purpose for the past four decades, and we hope we can at least find another way to meet that intent. God Bless and God Bless Alderson Broaddus University. wboy/story/26489956/alderson-broaddus-taking-down-iconic-bell-tower
