It is almost the beginning of fall. This is the season that a lot of people start to experience dry skin. Dry skin is more of an annoyance than a real threat. A few great choices for dry skin are coconut oil, shea butter and Green Beavers Boreal Body Lotion. If your dry skin is recurring every season or if you have always had very dry skin, than you may have atopic dermatitis, which describes a long term skin disorder that causes itchy rashes, scaly skin, redness and even blisters at times. Also known as eczema. Eczema is typically treated by the medical field with a cortisone cream that you apply topically. What they dont tell you is that eczema shows up on your skin to warn you that something is happening inside your body. Eczema is an immune system response causing inflammation. This can be triggered by Candida(overgrowth of yeast), low levels of hydrochloric acid(Hcl) in the stomach (causes undigested foods to enter the bloodstream and cause an allergic response) and food allergies. To get rid of your eczema for good, you need to first find out the cause. If it is Candida, than a strict diet is needed as well as supplements to help kill off and dispose the candida from the body. If you suffer from eczema and notice that you have digestive disturbances (bloating, heartburn, etc) than a digestive enzyme with Hcl is the supplement you need. With food allergies, the elimination diet is the best way to ensure you are eliminating the trigger food. The most common food allergens are gluten, corn, soy products, artificial flavors, preservatives, starches, peanuts, eggs and pasteurized dairy. Any processed or genetically modified food product would be considered highly allergenic. Try to avoid all these foods for a minimum of a month and see if the eczema appears to have disappeared or is less bothersome. Rebuilding the gut is absolutely essential to fully ward off eczema. High quality fermented foods and probiotics are very important to help heal the gut. These foods include sauerkraut, kimchi, fermented veggies, fermented fruit, apple cider vinegar, kombucha and coconut kefir. Topically, you can also use calendula cream or red clover cream.....they are both great for healing the skin without chemicals or steroids, but you have to heal the inside to stop the problem from coming outside!
