It is amazing to me how scientific research, which should be objective, can be manipulated. This study: onlinelibrary.wiley/doi/10.1111/joim.12048/abstract;jsessionid=310A488B3392832CBE7F5AD860795427.f02t03, is being touted that paleo diet works. by the design and measures it is obvious that they wanted to show that a paleo diet improves diabetes. This is poorly design in that there is no control group. They simply take some women and put them on a 40% fat, 30% protein, 30% carb diet. They ate 25% less calories and they lost weight. Big deal. Drop 25% of calories on ANY diet and you lose weight. They noted there was fat loss from the liver, which will happen with any weight loss, so they conclude that a paleo diet causes fat loss in a specific area. What BS. Lose weight over 6 weeks doing anything you would get same results. What is no publicized is that insulin sensitivity, DESPITE the weight loss, did not change! They also measured intramyocellular fat. This is the fat in the muscles, and it is of vital importance. That is the fat you want to lose to become healthy and avoid insulin resistance and diabetes. In this study, there was no fat loss from the muscles and that is why there why there was no improvement in insulin resistance. This is the problem with pubmed. People reference articles but never actually read the full articles and dont have the training to understand the science.
