It is amazing what we do not appreciate during our lifetime. On my first morning back in my home town I was greeted with the beauty of the Ruahine Ranges. Over my childhood, they were just there creating the coldness in the air and our yearly camps at primary school were I begrudgingly had to haul my backside up to get to sunrise hut, only to be told to turn around and head back to camp. Last week however, I saw them through fresh eyes. They were magnificent. Instead of viewing the air as freezing cold and hideous, I felt the fresh nips of mother nature surrounding my being and fully took in the awesome sight of the wisdom held within the snow capped peaks that descended freely down the ranges. Half a life not knowing what was present in my own back yard. Imagine all the things that we never truly appreciate, that have always been present, just sitting there waiting patiently for us to discover them.
