It is an interesting point of fact that after the Irish War of Independence when Ireland was split in two the MAJORITY of the Irish peoples voted to accept this partition in opposition to the IRA. This led to Valeras famous statement The Majority have no right to do wrong actually a restatement of Tolstoy words Wrong does not cease to be wrong because the majority share in it.” ― Leo Tolstoy and repeated again by Gandhi “In matters of conscience, the law of the majority has no place.” ― Mahatma Gandhi, During the troubles the main nemesis of the catholic peoples in northern Ireland were the Garda and the RUC, The catholics, rightly so, considered themselves discriminated against and after the battle of bog side descended into total anarchy it was the British army that was called in to keep the peace. The Brits were in some ways welcomed by the Catholics as the civil rights movement was basing itself on the actions of Martin Luther King and calling for mainland assistance which in the US was a call for federal protection. All this was to change after the civil rights rally on a Bloody Sunday in 1972 youtu.be/vkOpgr1ElXg
