It is around 4 am in China but my body tells me it is 6 pm so I get up to keep others in the apartment from suffering from the jet lag I am experiencing. What is it like to go home to the states after 7 months of living an Eastern life style? I find that I do not have words that can even compare to the difference. There are positive things about moving here as well as negative and so far one does not outweigh the other. What I find the most intriguing about travelling from two worlds is the potential feeling of being in a time machine and taken back in time. When I left the US it was July very green and HOT. Coming back in February was quite different because it was COLD and bare. Yet other than that on the outside everything appeared the same. (with a few exceptions such as construction on the square). Friends and family looked the same but it was the suttle things that reminded me that I had been away for over 7 months. I had to remind myself that while I was gone, home had football season, Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas parades, and snow.....lots of snow......none of this was really experienced by my family this year not in the usual way it has always been. Even though so much was familiar and looked the same, underneath it was very different because life moved on whether your apart of it or not. New memories are made, new friendships formed, and inside jokes and stories you were once apart of are now having to be explained to you because you were not there to experience them. But it is really awesome to see how the universe does not revolve around us. Those same people who cried and said they did not think they could survive without you are still surviving and maybe even a little better off than when you left them. It is encouraging to see the changes and although it is unfamiliar .........it is very familiar because that is the way this wonderful world is set up to be. Continually moving forward with memories of the past and great anticipation for the future .....all the while trying to figure out the present! What an awesome visit home!!!!!
