It is better to trust in the Lord than to put confidence in man: - TopicsExpress

It is better to trust in the Lord than to put confidence in man: It is better to trust in the Lord than to put confidence in nobles.(Psalm 118:8-9). A broken tooth, and a tottering foot, is confidence in an unfaithful man in the day of trouble.(Proverbs 25:19). Trials, troubles, difficulties of many kinds will test us. How urgently is faithfulness needed then! It is with very real reason that Paul tells Timothy, "The things thou hast heard of me in the presence of many witnesses, these entrust to faithful men, such as shall be competent to instruct others also" (2 Timothy 2:2). When things are not right, we need much grace from God to speak rightly of Him and for Him and to act wisely in His fear. For these things are tests. They will prove whether we are faithful in continuance, stable and solid in the face of storms, maintaining unshaken faith in the Living God by which others may be encouraged and strengthened. If one has confidence in us, and finds that in the acid test we withdraw, give up, become lax or weakened, resort to human reasoning in place of wholesome faith; he will find this confidence of his to be "a broken tooth." A broken tooth with its nerve exposed is significant of a distressing hindrance to feeding upon the truth of God. Along with this, it becomes "a tottering foot," a condition of painful inability for a decisive walk with God. On the one hand, therefore, let us be faithful, dependable, that we may not let others down in times of trouble. On the other hand, let us be more careful, If we are going to have confidence in any man, to be sure he is a Faithful man, consistently steadfast in the path of Obedience to the Word of God. Great gift and ability, Great zeal and enthusiasm, will be no substitute for Simple Faithfulness. God Bless You.
