It is bread we fight for but we fight for roses too. This song was traditionally sung by miners wives as they supported their men on the picket lines during long and difficult strikes. It is about the fight not only for fair pay, but also for a good quality of life. It is relevant now as we fight for good quality drinking water which is our right as human beings. We also fight to sustain the social fabric of our community. The Darling River and the Menindee Lakes have been the social hub of communities for more than 50 000 years. Without water, communities suffer and die. This government needs to realise that people live in communities - not economies, although a healthy river and lakes system create a healthy economy. If you live in Broken Hill - even though Kevin Humphries says that most of us dont, do yourselves a favour and go and see this movie. John Wren is showing it on Wednesday at 5pm and again on Saturday afternoon. It will lift your spirits and inspire you in this struggle :) youtube/watch?v=E2ISkeEc-9U
