It is clear to any critical thinking South African that our country is faced with the challenge of unemployment. Different political parties including the ruling party (ANC) and two top opposing parties (DA and EFF) have all tired working out different strategies to handle this situation. I personally maintain that to solve this problem we need leaders and ordinary people who would think creatively. Moreover we should all note that the test of creativity measure not only the number of alternatives that can be generated but the uniqueness of those alternatives. ANC has brought forward the proposal of job seekers grand, the DA proposed youth wage subsidy while EFF is fighting for land retribution and nationalisation of the countrys minerals, bank and other wealth. The 2009-2014 government has passed the youth employment tax incentive. However if one is to analyse all the above mentioned strategies you will notice that they all just shuffling around the limited resources that the country has and not dealing with the problem from the roots. I am of the opinion that what this country really need to generate is way more than just bulk of policies but rather we need to generate new sources of wealth. We urgently need to diversify our economic activities and stop basing too much on exporting raw materials but rather innovatively and creatively process them. With a high number of young people we have, we are presented with an opportunity to train them in skills and knowledge which is relevant . Article by Lesego Overachiever Molepo
