It is common knowledge that the Kenyan youth have battled with unemployment for as long as we can remember. Poor implementation of the 8:4:4 system, weak labor and youth policies, a fast growing population (1 million babies a year)without an equal economic growth, tribalism and corruption among other drivers have made it possible for only 200 000 out the 500 000 who graduate every year to get gainful employment. According to statistics in 2012, more than 40 000 young people are unemployed in Trans Nzoia county.With a declining output in the agricultural sector, increased tendency of awarding employment to outsiders like the Tuskys and majority tenders, the deliberate denial of the 30% allocation of tenders to women, youth and people with disabilities though we have proof of youths who qualified but were short changed and the allocation of a negligible percentage of the county budget 2013/ 2014 to youth development is a recipe for disaster. The government of the day can not claim to be passionate about youth development when evidence indicate otherwise. You don’t have to go to school to appreciate that investment in quality education, relevant and market driven training and putting into strategic of this human resource is pivotal to the prosperity of any nation. We are yet to see what the so called intellectuals are planning......
