It is easy to feel total despair after the election result last night - As well as knowing in our heads that there is a much fairer and more sustainable way to run the country, many of us on the left also have a legitimate emotional response to the injustice and suffering we see being inflicted on our most vulnerable by this Government - especially those of us working or living on the front line of poverty and inequality in Aotearoa. However, Im reminded that there is a lot to be hopeful about too. Im so proud to be supporting a Party that has kept its integrity intact throughout this Dirty election, and has retained its position as the third largest voice in parliament because of it. The Greens are a beacon of hope for a different and better way of doing politics in NZ. They have my respect not just because of their polices, but also because of the value system that underpins them and is evident in their engagement with the system. The integrity I see modeled by our Green MPs inspires me - they have lead the conversation on all the important issues while outside of Government for as long as I can remember, and I dont expect that to change this time around. Whoohoo for three more years of fighting back, re-framing the conversation, and bringing the needs of our communities to the table!!
