It is entirely unfair to those of us who have graduated from the prestigious USM Theatre department for the school to quietly shove them aside with obvious intent to eliminate the program entirely. How much more stupid can a decision be? How does that make me feel about the Alma Mater in which I hold genuine regard? How does it impact the validation of my choice to use USA as an educational platform? What impact will it have when I place it on my resume with regard to future endeavor? What is to become of the remaining tireless, passionate, brilliantly talented staff that have given their careers to the educational development of students like myself? How about the sacrifice they gave to USM to make this awesome and reputable Theatre Dept? I am disheartened, feel betrayed, and am outraged at the recent developments involving the USM Theatre Department, and its elimination from the educational programming at USM. THIS IS A BAD DECISION!!!!! Adding insult to injury is to learn of the ironic focus on sporting events, teams, their faculty salaries and attention, provost salary, general irresponsible spending choices etc, and general corruption within the higher ranks of the USM administrative system. I emphatically refuse to give them my support in this endeavor, and sternly request instead that they choose to uplift the arts in the USM and Southern Maine community and enhance to Theatre Dept with the support it so richly deserves. This is back-handed and dirty play, and I will have lost entire faith in and support for the entire University of Maine system. It is a blinded and ill-thought through decision to allow this. Period. The school board is way out of line on this; I implore you to rethink this irresponsible action, and strongly caution the school, and advise instead make a wise decision to publicly acknowledge they have zero intention of doing this, and that my words are of complete hearsay- that our beloved department isnt going anywhere.
