It is funny how people simply assume that many common phrases/ clichés come straight from the bible. Many people believe neither a borrower nor a lender be was from the bible, not from Shakespeares Hamlet. A lot of people have been saying the bible says spare the rod spoil the child well wrong again. While Proverbs may have inspired the line, in fact that cliche from the long 17th-century poem Hudibras, written by Samuel Butler (1612-1680), a cheeky British poet who enjoyed mocking religious extremists and hypocrites. I love irony, and it is pretty sad that we forget literature. Sadly nowadays people know the price of everything and the value of nothing. (And they definitely devalue literature and the great minds who bring you frequently quoted phrases.)This cliché was brought to you by Oscar Wilde in The Picture of Dorian Grey, not the bible if you were wondering.
