It is getting close to the time to see our hummingbird friends - TopicsExpress

It is getting close to the time to see our hummingbird friends again. I hear that they are gradually making their journey northward with the progression of flora. Well as much as I love to see them I have to try and stop them and here is why: Yesterday evening on my way home, like any good wife trained in the way of 70s home economics I stopped to get a bucket of chicken for supper. I ordered 8 pieces of the grilled chicken. She said it would be a few minutes as they had a fresh batch just coming out. I said that would be fine. Super, fresh chicken and not something that had sat under the heat light all afternoon. After a few minutes they bring out my bucket and I drive home as proud as June Cleaver with a freshly baked apple pie. I arrive home and announce to Leslie that I had brought home chicken (he loves the grilled version especially). I usually get all dark meat because Leslie and I prefer that. I take the lid off of the bucket and I feel as if I am staring down a deep well at an empty abyss. OMG! My 8 pieces of plump and juicy chicken look like a alley cats delight. The drumsticks on these squabs had probably taken very few steps in their life as they were barely out of the shell. Good thing I ordered all dark meat because these toddler chicks in no way had developed breasts yet! I say to Leslie that no one would have ever bought chicken that looked like that in the store. Then I realized precisely what I had said. Dont try and sell it in plain sight, throw it down in the bucket with a lid it so the unsuspecting customer gets the full effect of the surprise upon unveiling when they sit the family down to a hearty meal. While we sit and gorge ourselves Poppy sits and watches as she always does for a few tasty morsels. I tell her that we are going to have a history lesson. I proceed to explain that when dogs were first domesticated by the man they ate the scraps and tiny bits that fell upon the cave floor. I looked at those sorry canary legs and thighs and told her she best go to her dog food bowl for her evening sustenance. I am thinking that if they are resorting to this type of poultry for their restaurant that the hummingbirds are not safe! I thought about going down to the Ohio River and posting signs to tell them to turn back for their own safety. Then I realize that they will never make it to the Ohio River. They will be ravaged in Kentucky and end up being covered in 11 herbs and spices!
