It is getting late, so I have to write fast. This is day 4 of my happy/thankful challenge. Decided to focus on some of the folks who have influenced my journey - other than my mom and dad. 1.The first one who comes to mind is Delores Johnson. She was one of the first nursing faculty that I worked with when I began teaching. She had been on the faculty for several years. Her family were fellow Covenanters so I knew her as a friend. She was a superior nurse, clinically and knowledge wise. She later became the founding chair of the nursing program at North Park Univ. She was a believer and the connection of her faith with her teaching and nursing practice were obvious. She demonstrated a love for her students and was a fierce advocate for the best in educational practice. 2. Dorothy Lundberg was the main Obstetrics instructor at my school of nursing. She was a graduate of Swedish Covenant Hospital in Chicago. Watching her and learning under her developed my first love of OB and also my introduction to teaching/learning experiences. She was a model of calm presence and love for her practice area and the students she taught. 3. There are too many to name, but the staff women of Nurses Christian Fellowship who demonstrated in daily life and NCF programs a commitment to nursing and integration of faith with the profession were a strong influence in my early practice and teaching experiences. I felt like I had met a very unusual group of nurses that were very special role models
