It is hard to describe what I am feeling right now after receiving the wonderful news this morning that my sister and I were approved for the Hapa/First Generation Tour 2014 thru koreaandme.org. Going back to my birthplace let alone with my sister always have been an unattainable desire, due to circumstances and or lack of financial support. Ive always felt like Im outside looking in while more deserving people got to do these type things because they made better choices through out their lives so they are financially capable. I have been given many opportunities, doors were always opening for me but a lot of times I just couldnt bring myself to just simply walk thru either out of fear or just simply not valuing my self worth. My exterior self often times does not match up with my interior/inner self, on the outside it seems life has been easy and pretty much it has in comparison but there always have been an emptiness that has crippled me. Today I found myself looking at all the negative postings in my newsfeed and not allowing myself to really feel the joy of this wonderful news. I know this trip will be life changing for myself and my sister Sydonie Blandon. I know it will open up places in my heart that I have protected over the years so vigilantly. But it is TIME and I am blessed to have this opportunity in my 57th year to return to the country I was born in 1957!!! I thank Mary Hiatt @ koreaandme.org, I thank Katherine Km for putting the bug in their ear and the countless pms to get me to act on this and Milton Washington for his words basically saying dont let my lack of finances stop me from applying.
