It is imperative for all of us to understand that our beliefs do not define us, it is our moral values that do. Isnt it true that we put too much emphasis on beliefs, and far too little on the values theyre supposed to generate? This way, not only do we terribly miss the bigger picture, but also end up creating needless barriers amongst ourselves and others who adopt a different belief system. In traditional thought, unity is something that is thought of as only being achievable between people who share similar beliefs. But I dont think the criteria should be set on beliefs at all, for they are only guidelines that lead us to our destinations. Rather, in my opinion, unity should be sought on values. Surely you would agree with me that there are multiple paths towards a particular destination. So why not keep the destination in mind, and stop this obsession with the path one chooses? Isnt it time that we set our priorities straight? How much more hate are we to witness before we realize our mistakes?
