It is in Chicago where we see the cruelty, and truly bi-partisan character, of the assault on public education. We stand united with the teachers, parents and students of that city in resistance to these policies, we mourn their loses, and we are inspired by their courage in continuing to fight back. Make no mistake about it- school closings and the proliferation of charter schools pave the way to real estate investment that contribute to the gentrification of the nations cities, and the pushing of poor people into the suburbs where they are less able to organize and protest against elite policies. We must continue to expose the corruption and cynicism of the School Reformers, especially their appropriation of Civil Rights language and imagery for policies which strengthen the rich at the expense of the poor. And everywhere we do this, Chicago teachers, parents and students will be in our hearts. Solidarity!!! ^0^0^
