It is indeed very shameful and a show of gross incompetence on the part of the management of the University of Uyo that they could allow a minor, peaceful and armless protest by the students to escalate into what claimed lives and burnt down vital offices in the institution. What is the big deal in dialogue? Why invite the police when you have all it takes to reach the hearts of your students? As for the Nigerian Police, theirs is to be active on weak domestic issues involving harmless and armless ones who may simply be protesting against hunger or ill-treatment. Invite the police now to a ‘real crime scene’ n watch them arrive hours after whoever was carrying out the act had had his fill time and long gone. Jokingly tell them at a check point (their collection centre) that armed robbers are operating nearby and get the amusement of your life as they all would tear their uniforms apart and run into nearby bushes. It’s so sad to see those who should protect, take innocent lives while they dread at the sight of those they should attack.
