It is known that the function of control and defense of armeno-turkish and armeno-iranian border sectors is implementing the security services of the Russian federation, while the supervision and protection of our borders with Georgia and Azerbaijan are fulfilling the frontier army of Armenia. Such distribution of work between the Armenian and Russian border troops was logical in the 90’s when in the circles of CIS the control of some sectors of external borders of the former USSR were given to the russians for the reason that some of the newly independent CIS states within them Armenia could not fully organize the control and protection of those borders. Over the years much has changed and the control of the external borders of the former USSR in case of Georgia and some other states are eliminated, which is an evidence of increasing the independence and sovereignty level of those states, whereas nothing has been changed in terms of Armenia. I think this gives serious contemplation and perhaps time has come and may be not all at once but gradually taking the whole Iranian border sector of Armenia under the exclusive directorate of the RA border troops, just as it is in the case of armeno-georgian border. Moreover, unlike of the georgian section of our border, where the frontier infrastructures and services in the recent years were created from zero, the armeno-iranian border sector since the soviet times is primarily secured with necessary infrastructures. This step is logical for the reason that the defense of Artsakh’s current borders with Iran is exercised not by Russian but with Artsakhian border troops. This step in one way will show that the confidence level in armeno-iranian relationship is increased and the scope of our sovereignty is expanded. On the other hand this will provide the possibility to use effectively the professional potential of the russian border troops in focusing to the more dangerous and problematic turkish direction for us and for them.
