It is my feeling (and perhaps nothing more than just that) that people are really horrified by some of the things that they see from the extreme right: Setting up committees to look for objectionable materials in the teaching of AP US History ?? Are you serious? A small group of school board officials, who have proven themselves somewhat history deficient, are going to lock horns with Ph.Ds in History from over 3,300 colleges and universities, because it offends their ideology? Teach The Controversy bills to try and sneak Creationism into science classes. Arent our students challenged enough compared to other the rest of the world when it comes to science? Global Climate Change denial--perhaps somewhat related to our deficiencies in teaching science in our high schools: Sorry, couldnt get to that! We had to Teach the Controversy and include Creationism for a few days/weeks. The state of Kansas--enough said! The video of a fellow, apparently pumped up on meth and steroids, making what appears to be an unexpurgated WWE challenge to our president--you can find the link to that ummmm...vulgar (vulgar comes close, but isnt quite pejorative enough). The Citizens United decision, which 70-80% of us oppose. Ted Cruz (Need I say more?...yeah I guess I will): He has now promised to waste legislative time with a Constitutional Amendment to overturn the recent SCOTUS decisions about Marriage Equality. Of course he couldnt help work on a jobs, veterans, or immigration bill, and you can bet hes all for Citizens United. Oh, hey! Weve needed them to help make decisions, and they have refused. Opposition to background checks for the purchase of guns, while mass shootings are becoming an almost weekly occurrence. 50,000 children kept in pedophillic child kennels at the border--and labeled terrorists. War mongering. The biggest enemy to the populist version of conservatism isnt liberals. Not at all! Its mouthy ignorant populist conservatives. We just need to keep reminding people of what they stand for, and that apathy allows them to keep their jobs, and potentially implement their policies.
