It is my opinion that Russia will most probably and finally occupy the crimean peninsula. Obama will sanction Russia and stiffle its economy. That will not hurt putin and might force obama to appease him like chamberlain did. Obama cannot afford a war with putin, neither proxy nor direct. The most he will do is move an armada to the black sea and create a un enforced buffer zone which russia will veto. The Russian veto is the check mate here and putin knows that the crimea is his ticket to control of ukraine or lose the war, (remember the Malvinas). They deposed the Russian puppet in kiev yanukovich and and as a result they must cotend with russian boots in eastern europe. Only nuclear deterrence is key to peace otherwise world war 3 could be a rare possibility
