It is necessary in this world to be against some things. If I hear one more person waxing sentimental about how Christ-followers need to show the world that we are for things and not against them Im liable to be ill. To be for some things is necessarily to be against some other things. If the Church is not hated, at least by some, precisely *because* of its witness then it must question its faithfulness. How can followers of the One who said the world hated Him (because He testified of it that its works were evil) expect to be liked by the world, much less loved by it? Such feelings and desires are part of a wave of adolescent sentimentality that is drowning the American Church. John 15:20-- Remember the word that I said to you, ‘A servant is not greater than his master. ’ If they persecuted Me, they will also persecute you. If they kept My word, they will keep yours also.
