It is no secret that Ron and I suffered great difficulties in our marriage and it is a true miracle of Gods grace that we are together after 40 years of marriage. At a point in our marriage...all hope of reconciliation was gone and we could not see the relationship ever being put back together...especially in any significant way. So Im writing whats on my heart today...in hopes that it might help someone...anyone! Jesus taught us: Matthew 5:44-48 But I say to you, Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, so that you may be sons of your Father who is in heaven. For he makes his sun rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the just and on the unjust. For if you love those who love you, what reward do you have? Do not even the tax collectors do the same? And if you greet only your brothers, what more are you doing than others? Do not even the Gentiles do the same? You therefore must be perfect, as your heavenly Father is perfect. One translation says, pray for those that despitefully use you. So tell me shouldnt this scripture apply to your mates as well as strangers? Ron and I had lost all respect for ourselves and each other. We not only felt no love for the other but at times felt resentment so strong and powerful it was hate! So we couldnt imagine ever loving each other again! Then we realized (due to the steadfast prayers of many) that love is NOT just an emotion but a DECISION! So we both renewed a commitment to God, to love the other through His eyes! In the beginning, it wasnt to get back together but it was to heal our relationship with God. We made a decision to love one another with God s love....as friendsfor our childrens sake. Then we found that since love was a decision and NOT just an emotion...our hearts became open again to feel the emotional love. The enemy has no new bag of tricks! He uses the same ammo over and over again. It might look a little different but when boiled down its the same. He wants to steal, kill and destroy not only your FAMILY but your ministry and future generations! Please open your eyes to his fiery darts being unleashed on families today. Stand strong and redo a covenant/commitment to decide to love your mate with Gods love and not just your own emotions! Im praying for the families today! The enemy wants yours!
