It is not that I prefer that newborns not be hatted. It is not about fashion. It is about science. It is a biological imperative that mammas smell their newborns to initiate the crucial final part of the birth.....yes, to signal the uterus that its job is over, baby has been identified and is safe, now you may release placenta and stop bleeding, we are on to the next phase.....thank you. This message is sent from the limbic system after it gets the message via: a. the olfactory system b. mothers first sight of her newborn c. mother hearing her babys first cry the answer is A. Hats interfere with the design....mother needs to smell baby to complete the physiologic birth and this design is for the safety of mother as well! Besides hats are not needed, skin to skin with mother keeps core temp regulated....hats do not....., secondly hats may keep the newborn brain from cooling as it is supposed to, also by design: that is why babys head constitutes such a large portion of the newborn skin.......and baby loses heat proportionately...it is not that heat is lost out of one body part more than another.....the pics of hatted naked babies drives me nutty.... hats interfere with the visual that mom has....she needs to see her whole original baby not a decorated one.....hats inhibit unmoulding..... mamma bleeding more than you would like? but that baby under her nose This was the original built in anti hemorrhage mechanism - Carla Hartley
