It is not unusual for me to receive Happy Good Friday messages. It is like wishing a Muslim Happy Muharram. But I do not blame the senders of such messages because I myself had difficulty in understanding how Sorrowful Friday became Good Friday in English. Good Friday became good because the death of Christ, as terrible as it was, led to the Resurrection on Easter Sunday, which brought new life to those who believe. In Malayalam and other Indian languages, Good Friday is actually called Sorrowful Friday. Even in many European languages it is Sacred Friday or Holy Friday or Sorrowful Friday. The etymology of Good Friday is not clear. It probably is a corruption of Gods Friday as the English used to refer to the day. It is a day of fasting and penance. It is the anticipation of Easter that makes Good Friday good. I hope my friends liked this explanation on this Good Friday.
