It is now the middle of summer and there is much to be thankful - TopicsExpress

It is now the middle of summer and there is much to be thankful for. First let me speak of grandchildren. My youngest grandson Cooper, sporting only his birthday suit, running through the cold water, my other grandson Grayson, soon to be six, playing patiently and lovingly with his younger cousins are recent scenes on madawaska avenue (formerly north main street). They both live farther away than our granddaughters so time together is so precious. This past weekend my three granddaughters were all here. Sophia, two, came first singing the song “Wagon Wheel” to herself, so I learned the song on guitar and when Alyvia, three, and Landyn, almost one, showed up we had a big sing along with baby girl dancing and many smiles. It was a scene to behold and I am thankful for my three children who have made these joys possible. Next I must say the weddings and babies being born recently have left me wholly captivated and this does not come about without social media for which I am grateful. While facebook is certainly not a substitute for socialization, the admitted feelings of isolation and depression are greatly dampened when looking at the smiling faces as they begin new and exciting lives. Many of the beautiful brides, handsome grooms and new parents were former students of mine and I congratulate them all. Right or wrong I also feel a sense of pride for my small part. While this may appear counter-intuitive I am also thankful that while I can not teach I still remember how it feels to teach; while I can not perform I still see performance in my head; while I cannot mountain bike I still embrace the bike and trail under my body. These pieces of myself I give to me. I speak lastly of Ellen, who makes it possible for me to hold onto myself. I truly believe without her there would be no me.
