It is popular for devotees to post pictures of prasadam that they have made for their Deities and shared with others. There is also a common perception that in India, Western devotees can only cook rice, dahl and subji. Well, it just aint so- at least in Sunny Bangalore. Some years back, young Jagannath dasa from Australia made an authentic Italian style oven. He has crafted a few other ovens in India since then. But this oven is his first and still the best. It has had some hard use over the years, but it is still going strong. The other day we decided to make some pizzas and calzone. Two kinds of pizza; one a traditional red sauce with mozzarella, ricotta and pesto; the other and Indian styled with oven roasted eggplant (with italian herbs and pav bhaji masala) and roasted green peppers, with the red sauce (oven roasted tomatoes and red peppers with oregano, basil, rosemary, thyme, black pepper, hing). And the Indian style had mostly fresh ricotta, much less mozzarella. And that ricotta is specially flavored with sambar masala. Actually is is quite good. But I prefer the margarita style. Then the calzone had everything in them plus oven roasted pumpkin, pine nuts and corn. All were lovingly offered to Sri Sri Radha Madan Mohan and distributed to our devotees and guests. We made 30+ personal size pizzas (like extra large nan bread) and 6 big calzones and one 15 inch special pizza. Oh- and they were amazing. Truly so.
