It is shameful and shocking to hear that University of Nairobi students vying for SONU leadership positions engaged each other in a gun fight at Lower Kabete Campus on Thursday evening. It is good that a number have been charged with possession of swords, guns and knives but more needs to be done. The students are spending up to KShs 2 million for the campaigns. Where would a student get such money from? These people must be investigated. The University should have suspended the elections until thorough investigations are done and the responsible expelled and prosecuted. We cant accept that gun violence in a premier institution of higher learning can be a new normal.
