It is shameful how the great state of California has turned its’ back on college students……Right now the proposed tuition increase for U.C. students is getting all the attention but the situation is pretty much the same for CSU and community college students as well-----they are paying more and being offered less……This has been a steady pattern dating back to when I went to college in the 1970’s and if you want to point fingers there are plenty of targets----both political parties share some responsibility in cutting funding and ignoring mounting costs that are in part the result of generous benefit and pension packages that have been given----the powers presiding over the academic systems have made questionable decisions and seem to underestimate the impact their decisions have on the students -----and the tuition was artificially low for a long time given the quality education that used to be provided so there was a need for adjustment…….Everyone seems to agree that higher education needs to be a priority-----let’s see how our elected and appointed leaders address this latest crisis----to be honest Im not optimistic---how about you?
