It is shameful the way some people are ready to vent their frustration against the regime by seeking to blame MAS for the tragedy. No matter how you cut it, MAS is not responsible for what happened. 1. Yes, several airlines had already taken the decision to avoid this airspace. Have the detractors looked at the map to see how much impact such a route change would have made on their operation costs, taking into consideration what cities they were linking? 2. A number of carriers that connected the cities for which this route was optimum continued to follow this corridor. Were they all being foolish or cutting dangerous corners? 3. MAS was indeed operating on a tight budget. While it is easy to be wise in hindsight, did anyone perform a risk analysis to show that MAS was endangering passengers & crew by failing to take a longer route? 4. The pilot did ask to fly at a higher altitude, but his request was denied because the flight controller did not think there was any issue with the assigned altitude. At that time, nobody really thought there was any danger. Dont forget, if MAS has taken the longer route and no such incident had happened, the very same detractors would bay for the blood of the officers for unnecessary waste of money. you just cant win!
