It is so very difficult to believe that this is the last day of the eleventh month of the year 2014. This time tomorrow I am hoping to be finished having my gimpy left knee replaced by Dr. Thomas Dominick right down there in good old Evangelical Community Hospital, and well on my way to the recovery room. Am I scared ? No, I am not scared. Am I concerned or apprehensive ? I most certainly am every bit of that. This will be my third serious operation since 2003. I had a five bypass open heart surgery done in 2003. That took place up in Williamsport. I did just fine on all phases of my recovery from that potentially life threatening operation. Not alone , mind you, because there were wonderful people, both of the medical profession, who had a specific acumen and superb training to guide me back to health, as well as my overworked wife and concerned family. Then I had my right hip replaced in 2007 , I think, by the same Dr. Tom Dominick at the very same hospital that I will be getting the left knee done in. My recovery from that was a bit more difficult for several reasons. First, I was 4 years older as well as quite a bit more overweight than in 2003. I had a small break in my tibia in 2008, a severe bout with cellulitis a few years ago, and any number of readjustments by my cousin, Dr. David Fisher, my favorite chiropractor, of the Susquehanna Trail above Milton. Each time I had anything done to me, I was fortunate to have the love and full support of my friends and family, and for that I was and remain most grateful. I had no prior knowledge of my heart operation as I went right from the blockage revealing dye stage into the operating room in Williamsport, where Dr. Xavier Aufierio and his superb staff took great care of me. There were several days of the knowledge of the impending operation when I had my right hip replaced. The small break in my tibia was as a result of a small accident out on Route 80 near Carlisle. My point is simply this, in all of those previous incidents I had little or even no previous knowledge of them. This time, though, I have had it scheduled for well over a month, I have been doing both pre as well as post operation exercises designed to better return me to a much healthier as well as MOBILE state as quickly and easily as possible. Plus, my devoted spouse, otherwise known as “fast Eddie “, has had a lot of time thinking about this operation and all of the ramifications that it involves, as far as my recovery goes. I have complete confidence in both her devotion to me as well as her innate ability to assist me with whatever God throws out there for us. She truly is my Rock of Gibralter and the one on which I can depend to guide me through my trials in this life. My sister and brother-in-law have insisted that they will be there tomorrow when I go into the Netherlands of the hospital. I love them for it and am certain that they will be there for not only my support and prayers, but especially for Eddie as the waiting process begins after Dr. Tom is through with me. I am not fearful, except for having to leave both the comforts of my home and less than grueling schedule behind for a few days, but also for my devoted two cats as well. Eddie said that when I was in the hospital for the first 5 days of this year, John at on the kitchen table, staring at the back door, wondering where I was and when I was coming back to him. So it is under these circumstances that I offer myself to whatever Dr. Tom and the Lord have in store for me when I walk in that hospital at 7:00 a.m. Monday morning. I was told by several other knee patients that there is going to be considerable pain involved in my recovery process. I can withstand that , especially with all of the love and support that I will and do have at my disposal. My biggest and most treasured goal is to simply be able to hold my Eddie in my arms and dance with her without her having to worry if I am going to fall. I am ready…Oh yes, I almost forgot to mention that there will be a posting of the pool match results, but not necessarily right away as I will need to wait until I get home sometime on Thursday. So please be patient with me my loyal followers , I will catch you all up, I promise. Wish me luck !
